My Experience at SuperZoo: The Largest Pet Retail Event in North America

The pet industry’s growth over the last decade has been nothing short of extraordinary. Pet spending has surged by 115% since 2011 and the industry is projected to soar to a staggering $358.62 billion by 2027. It’s a powerful testament to how much we love our pets and are willing to invest in their well-being.

From human-grade dog food, to pet-friendly cafes, vitamins and supplements for our cats and dogs, the attention to their health and happiness has exploded. As someone who makes homemade dog food for my Sheepdog and Sheepadoodle and will do just about anything to keep them thriving, I couldn’t be more excited.

At SuperZoo this year, 2 major trends mirrored human wellness:

Longevity and overall wellness:

If you’ve been paying attention over the last few years, the focus on extending life by proactively supporting wellness is impossible to miss. Think Blue Zones, Mark Hyman, and Dr. Andrew Weil—all emphasizing nutrition, integrative medicine, and lifestyle practices to create longer, happier lives. This wellness mindset has quickly extended to pets. There are not only supplement brands popping up everywhere, but also at-home diagnostic testing (like Everlywell for humans) all aimed at helping pet parents help their pets live longer, healthier lives.

Human-Grade Products: Prioritizing Quality and Transparency

Those of us who already value high-quality ingredients in our own diets, are starting to expect the same for our pets.

  • Transparency: Pet owners want to know exactly what’s in their pets' food and where it comes from

  • Human-Grade Standards: Pet products made with human-grade ingredients are quickly becoming the alternative to mass produced kibble

  • Quality Assurance: Pet owners recognize the direct link between quality food and longevity for themselves and for their pets

These shifts reflect a new era in pet care, where pets are treated as part of the family in every way, including health. The real question is which of the thousands of new brands are going to be successful? If you’re interested in elevating your brand and making an impact in this extremely saturated market, let's connect and explore how we ensure that you brand is one of the success stories.
