Tic Tac Is Shaking Up Times Square

15 Feb 12

Tic Tac is one of the latest brands to embrace augmented reality to help enhance their marketing. Their new “Shake It Up” campaign can be found in magazines and on outdoor print. The idea is when you see one of their ads that reads, for example, “84% of People Always Sleep on the Same Side of the Bed,” you use a mobile app to activate a game where you have to avoid falling rocks by moving a man around on his bed.

But recently Tic Tac has brought the campaign to the heart of NYC in the form of billboards in an effort to “shake up” Times Square. Now, instead of using the custom app to active games, it actually puts you in the Times Square ad which appears in the form of a picture that can be sent to friends through Facebook. Check out all of the fun things Tic Tac has created to get you to “Shake It Up.”

Designed To Whet Your Appetite

16 Sep 10

We’re really happy here today because two of our favorite things are on display in NYC – Food & Design. Currently, Cooper Union has a really interesting exhibit up called, Appetite: A reciprocal relationship between Food & Design. Curated by the Herb Lubalin Study Center, the exhibit is an extremely innovative exploration of the role and influence design has in the food industry. While product design is a very important piece of the overall examination of this topic, the show goes way beyond introducing design elements you would never consider as being part of what possibly influences your appetite.

I’ve personally never thought twice about the design of a restaurant check or the typeface on the grocery store’s price label. All I ever think about is the damage they’re going to do to my wallet. Not to mention a Nutrition Facts label or a hand painted bodega sign. I highly recommend you check out Appetite and explore this intriguing area of design and how it effects your everyday life.

If this whet your appetite, be sure to stop by tomorrow where we’ll be servin’ up more delicious NYC events.

Exhibition Dates: September 14-October 9, 2010

We Love To Innovate

31 Mar 10

We’re in the midst of a great innovation project with one of our favorite clients.

Just last week, the innovation team met for a creativity-packed session at the The Room Studio in NYC. Check out some pictures of this gorgeous, idea-spawning space:

We left with a few inspirations we couldn’t help but bring back to the agency:

1. A reminder to keep our physical workspace as creative and free-thinking as possible. (We’d secretly like to move into the Room Studio permanently.)

2. When brainstorming, it’s important to set ground rules and expectations at the beginning of the session. And it’s important for a point person to make sure all team members stick to those rules.

3. A favorite ground rule: all team members must give ideas the chance to breathe before killing them with “but we’ve done that” or “but how would we ever afford that?”.

4. A fun exercise: use seemingly unrelated stimulus to spark exciting new ideas.

5. A great strategy to keep things fresh: continuously mix up partners and teams.

At Sawtooth, we’re committed to constantly change up the way we come up with ideas. To keep the perspectives new. To switch the angles from which we approach all of our projects. To innovatively innovate.
