Water + Box = Good. Really Good.

8 May 12

These ingenious guys out of Grand Rapids, Michigan have come up with boxing water. Boxes are shipped flat to their filler. It’s a more efficient than filling plastic bottles because it takes up less room. Totally recycled materials and totally recyclable. 10% of their profit is donated to world water relief foundations. We love the simple design and of course the brilliant idea.
Now, I’m really thirsty.

Kony 2012: A Campaign For Change

7 Mar 12

Kony 2012 is an amazingly profound documentary. It brings to light the war crimes of Ugandan Guerilla group leader Joseph Kony. Kony 2012 tells in disturbing detail the story of Kony, and the Invisible Children organization’s plan to take him down.  With social media creating such strong connectivity, the population now has the power to be heard and make change.

Sawtooth Bakes For A Place With A Big Heart

18 Oct 11

Last Tuesday night some generous Sawteeth rolled up their sleeves, tied on their aprons and took out their rolling pins. By 10 a.m. the next morning our 3rd Annual Sawtooth Bake Sale was in full swing to raise money for our friends at The Dwelling Place of NY – a transitional women’s shelter in NYC who we work with and love.

From bagging up brownies on sticks to selling raffle tickets for The Dwelling Place’s 9th Annual Gala, the Sawtooth Bake Sale once again turned out to be a super sweet success.

If you weren’t able to make it to the bake sale, you may have missed out on the cookies, but you didn’t miss out on the 50/50 raffle tickets. We’ll be selling them until this Thursday. Don’t miss your chance to win big and help a great place.

Thanks to everyone here for baking and to our office mates for buying our baked goods!

Back 4 The Future 4 Parkinson’s

23 Sep 11

We’re sure you’ve seen this just about everywhere these past few weeks, but we couldn’t resist commenting on Back 4 The Future.

Nike recreated 1500 pairs of replicas of the shoes made famous by Marty McFly in Back to the Future. Nike put 150 pairs a day for 10 days up for auction on Ebay and raised millions for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. They also raised much-needed awareness for Parkinson’s. The YouTube video is still at the top of viral video charts, so the campaign continues to work hard and be just as fun even after the shoes were auctioned off to die-hard McFly fans and Parkinson’s supporters.

In addition to being a super-smart campaign combining a great brand, a great cause and one of the most iconic movies of all time, it was also a treat to see Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown after all these years. The auction ended this past Monday and the auction sales reached into the millions. Donations will continue to be accepted here.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta de la Dwelling Place!

11 May 11

A group of us from Sawtooth threw the first ever Cinco de Mayo party at The Dwelling Place. We made a traditional Mexican feast! There was dancing, laughter and even a piñata to whack at. But the highlight of the evening was when two of the ladies sang solo pieces bringing everyone to tears. Muchas gracias las damas bonitas.

Check out more pictures from this inspiring night here.

Grant a Wish To Your Favorite Charity

9 May 11

This may not be news but we had to share this “discovery”: our 2 favorite charities, The Dwelling Place of NY and Sisters Academy of Asbury Park have “wishlists” on Amazon. Your favorite charity may have one as well, and we have to say it’s a really nice way to donate something useful and tangible to those in need. My favorite part of it is this – I just learned that The Dwelling Place Amazon WishList was a Sawtooth invention.

Print For Change Stops By Sawtooth

14 Apr 11

Yesterday, Jeremy Carroll, one of our friends from Print for Change, came to Sawtooth for an afternoon visit. Not only did we get to see some of the great work they’ve recently been doing, we also got to hear about Jeremy’s own personal experiences helping the people of Haiti.

Thanks to Kara for coordinating the visit and the donation of the soccer balls. And of course, thanks to Jeremy for taking the time to share his inspiring stories.

Zumba At The Dwelling Place

12 Apr 11

The latest exercise craze has made its way to The Dwelling Place. Marsha, a wonderful Zumba instructor, has been donating her time on Monday nights and showing the ladies how to shake it like Shakira. It’s a great way to let off some steam. Kristi and I had the chance to join in on the fun. And what fun it was!

For The Project Manager In All Of Us

5 Apr 11

Interesting post by the dude who I believe brought us the AIDSRides. Speaks to the completely anal project manager in all of us (but particularly the one living in yours truly) and is a great mental checklist for the next big pitch/project/presentation. The ideas aren’t necessarily new but are articulated in a very relevant way.

Where You Print Matters

30 Mar 11

We’ve told you before about our friends at Print for Change. We love their latest video. Just watch it and see. It really does matter where you print.
