Look What This Cookbook Can Do

5 Apr 12

We thought this was really cool. German design agency, Korefe, created a cookbook that won’t take up any space in your kitchen. Why? Because you’ll be serving it for dinner.

This fun new product has pages made from fresh pasta, which have directions printed on them that guide you through making a delicious lasagna. “The Real Cookbook” is a special edition. And we think it just took the idea of cookbooks to a whole new level.

Sawtooth Bakes For A Place With A Big Heart

18 Oct 11

Last Tuesday night some generous Sawteeth rolled up their sleeves, tied on their aprons and took out their rolling pins. By 10 a.m. the next morning our 3rd Annual Sawtooth Bake Sale was in full swing to raise money for our friends at The Dwelling Place of NY – a transitional women’s shelter in NYC who we work with and love.

From bagging up brownies on sticks to selling raffle tickets for The Dwelling Place’s 9th Annual Gala, the Sawtooth Bake Sale once again turned out to be a super sweet success.

If you weren’t able to make it to the bake sale, you may have missed out on the cookies, but you didn’t miss out on the 50/50 raffle tickets. We’ll be selling them until this Thursday. Don’t miss your chance to win big and help a great place.

Thanks to everyone here for baking and to our office mates for buying our baked goods!

Look What I Just Made…

13 May 11

Food photography is no longer left to the Quentin Bacons and Judd Pilossofs of the world. According to Mashable, more and more people are snapping their own creations and posting them on every social media outlet available. I’m one of them and I’m proud to show my work. So why not share it with you and the rest of my 545 “friends?!”

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta de la Dwelling Place!

11 May 11

A group of us from Sawtooth threw the first ever Cinco de Mayo party at The Dwelling Place. We made a traditional Mexican feast! There was dancing, laughter and even a piñata to whack at. But the highlight of the evening was when two of the ladies sang solo pieces bringing everyone to tears. Muchas gracias las damas bonitas.

Check out more pictures from this inspiring night here.

Local Flavor

2 May 11

For those of you who are unaware, piri-piri sauce is a Portuguese style hot sauce that is (per Saveur magazine), “more unctuous than Tabasco, yet less pulpy than sriracha”. And who knew that Saveur’s new favorite fiery piri-piri sauce can be found here in NJ? It was lovingly created by Peter Mantas, owner of the dearly departed Mazi restaurant in Bradley Beach, and current maitre d’ at Langosta Lounge, an Asbury haunt. The best part is that it’s available at Sawtooth favorite semi-local gourmet shop, Sickles Market.

Once again, Saveur shares our same local favorites.

Food, I Love You

7 Mar 11

Yes, food. I do love you. Planning dinner while I’m eating lunch type of love. So now I love Foodily, and their tagline, “Food I love you.”

Foodily is a beautifully designed, simple site that pulls every recipe from every website and puts it all in one place for your convenience. You can even check out recipes your foodie friends are cooking and then tell them your favorites through Facebook. Talk about a great way to celebrate food. Which is why it was recently netted by the webby’s.

So, what’ll it be? Gluten Free Bread? Homesick Texan Pickles? Fried Chicken? I don’t know, but now I’m hungry again.

Delicious Sawtooth Secret Revealed

4 Mar 11

The folks at Saveur have discovered what has been a well-kept Sawtooth secret up until now. Page 22 of their March issue celebrates what we’ve always known-that neighboring Oak Tree Road in Iselin is “New Jersey’s most delicious South Asian strip.” The editors appear to have missed Udupi, but maybe we’ll keep that secret to ourselves (and our faithful readers) for now.

The Sawtooth Academy Oscar Predictions

25 Feb 11

This Sunday is the 83rd Academy Awards. While we are looking forward to finding out who the Academy will select as the winners, we are far more interested in sharing who Sawtooth thinks will win.

We asked some of our movie-loving ‘teeth to share their picks in a few top categories. Truth be told, we’re also dying to try these nominee-inspired hors d’oeuvres.

Here’s what the Sawtooth Academy has to say:

Best Picture:
The Sawtooth Academy Predicts The Social Network

Because it’s so watchable and well-cast. I could watch it a hundred times. And it has some of the best one-liners of the year. -Amy

Because it has such a huge influence on our society. Over 500,000,000 people use Facebook throughout the World! -Jason

I thought it was really well written and an amazing look into the back-story of Facebook. Even if it’s not 100% accurate! –Elizabeth

I just thought this was an awesome movie. -Adria

Actor in a Leading Role:
The Sawtooth Academy Predicts Colin Firth

He was amazing. All King George VI wanted to do was please his father and prove he was not an embarrassment to the crown. He is really the only reason I wanted to see The King’s Speech. -Nicole

Who doesn’t love him? -Elizabeth

His performance of playing a stuttering King is genuine and realistic. –Dawn

He puts a lot of other actors to shame. –Richard

He was great in The King’s Speech. –Adria

I loved his transformation. He is one of the most eloquent, effortless-seeming actors and he played a king whose every word was a struggle. -Melissa

Actress in a Leading Role:
The Sawtooth Academy Predicts Natalie Portman

Hands down. She was absolutely amazing and completely believable as a young girl totally losing her mind. –Elizabeth

She gave the best mental and physical performance of the year. –Dawn

Two words. Star Wars. –William

I thought her performance in Black Swan was great (and I actually saw this movie, unlike some of the others). -Adria

Other Sawtooth Academy Contenders
Best Picture

The King’s Speech: It’s a classic Hollywood picture and besides it’s British. -Dawn

The King’s Speech: It’s one of my favorite themes: student discovers potential with help of an unlikely teacher. I loved everything about it especially how it made me feel: inspired. -Melissa

Toy Story 3: It was an amazing story with a well-planned plot and a happy ending. And no one else has an EVIL DR. PORKCHOP!!!! -Nicole

Inception: Because it’s the only movie nominated I actually saw. –William

The Fighter: I felt like I knew these people or knew people like them growing up. -Richard

Actor in a Leading Role
Jeff Bridges: Because he is the man. –Jason

James Franco: Because he was hilarious in Pineapple Express. -William

Actress in a Leading Role
Michelle Williams: I think she is the underdog in the category. -Nicole

Nicole Kidman: Because of her reputation. -Jason

We’ll be back Monday to give props to Sawtooth’s winners and to weigh-in on the Academy’s selections. Til, then enjoy the show.
